How to Install XCache on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

Pre-Flight Check

• These instructions are intended specifically for installing XCache, an open-source opcode cacher, on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.
• I’ll be working from a Liquid Web Core Managed Ubuntu 14.04 LTS server with Apache and PHP installed, and I’ll be logged in as non-root user. If you need more information then visit our tutorial on How to Add a User and Grant Root Privileges on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

Step #1: The Installation

As a matter of best practice we’ll update our packages:

sudo apt-get update

Then let’s install XCache and any required packages:

sudo apt-get install php5-xcache

Step #2: Verify the Extension is Available

Now verify that the extension is available by using the following command:

php -m | grep XCache

Your result should be similar to:

XCache
XCache Cacher
XCache Coverager
XCache Optimizer
XCache
XCache Cacher
XCache Coverager
XCache Optimizer

Listing the PHP version should now include information about XCache as well:

php -v
