What is RBAC?

Kubernetes Role-Based Access Control or the (RBAC) system describes how we define different permission levels of unique, validated users or groups in a cluster. It uses granular permission sets defined within a .yaml file to allow access to specific resources and operations.

This tutorial assumes you’ve already logged in to cPanel’s File Manager

• These instructions are intended for revoking a MySQL user permissions on Linux via the command line
• I’ll be working from a Liquid Web Core Managed CentOS 6.5 server, and I'll be logged in as root.

First we'll log in to the MySQL server from the command line with the following command:

PHP is an important part of your cPanel server. One aspect of PHP’s configuration that can be overlooked is the PHP handler. The PHP handler is the specific implementation of PHP on your server that interfaces with Apache. On a cPanel server, there are four main PHP Handlers:

Linux has a robust permissions system. This is a very good thing, as it enables a clear separation of roles among users, especially between the root user and your average user. Sometimes, though, you might want your average user to have some or all of root's privileges. In Linux, this is accomplished with sudo.

When you attempt to add or remove users from file and folder permissions within Windows Explorer, a login box appears and does not accept your administrator username and password.  This may prevent you from modifying the permissions.

Understanding file permissions is key to running a web server. Permissions control which users can read a file, make changes to a file, or execute a file/script/etc.

Now that you know how to SSH into your server it is important to familiarize yourself with some basic command line tools.

If you have an account on a cPanel server with shell access or your own VPS server or Dedicated server running Linux then SSH is a powerful tool to have in your skill set.

Using Softaculous, a new CMS(Content Management System) such as WordPress, Joomla, or Mambo has been installed on your website.  It does not matter which CMS is installed, they all need to be able to write files on the server. However, they could show “permission denied” errors during the first-time setup or the first time an upload is attempted via their built-in web interface.  This can happen when using DSO or CGI as the PHP handler. With either handler, php scripts by default run as the Apache user “nobody”, and the webserver software (usually Apache) needs to have write access to a user’s files to avoid this error.
